From the Press release:
“Dana Perry Releases One Hefty F_@#ing Album”
Dana Perry’s music is a bit like if someone gave the Tasmanian Devil a guitar and then
told him to go find himself — while her lyrics often lean into self-empowerment,
acceptance and the general nitty gritty of life, her hands can most accurately be
described as a very controlled, intentional tornado of beauty and badassery.
This will be on display more than ever in Perry’s upcoming album, Now & Again. Not
only are there five new songs (“hot outta the brain oven,” in Perry’s words), but she has
also re-recorded previously released music to create a collection that’s “fierce, soothing,
and fiercely soothing.” Including songs from former band Imaginary Watermelon as well as music from past DIY albums, Perry is serving a diverse musical charcuterie board. The award-shrouded singer/songwriter describes Now & Again as “an absolute laundry pile. Comfy worn songs washed and freshly line-dried, plopped and bundled with brand new tapestries of musical musings.”
The 12-song album also features some of the Madison area’s best, with Jenna Joanis,
Dan Kennedy, Matthew Lesniak, Kelly Hepper, Leah Schultz, and M Shays and members of The
Earthlings all leaving their marks. Recorded and mixed at Audio for the Arts, it’s a
Madison music fan’s dream.
With that said, Now & Again isn’t the kind of album to be thrown on in the background
— at least not the first time. Arguably warranting a warning on the cover, these Dana
Perry tunes may cause “swirling brain matter, hyperactive thought streams on
existentialism, radical self-acceptance, an impatience for the stagnant, [and] an
uncontrollable urge to take up space.” Simply put, Now & Again is one hefty fuckin’
album.
The release show for Now & Again will be from 5-8 p.m. on March 26, 2023 at Red
Rooster. Paired with local bands Cruisin Round and Uncle JIM, there will be absolutely
nowhere better to get your groove on on a Sunday — don’t miss this one.
